3:09 am - GCFA lend their voices to the Darfur crisis.

anariel_di_gaia
Loyal fans haven't heard much from this band in while, as our latest tour ended in a spectacular style (honestly, where all those ninjas came from during our final gig, I have no idea, but at least they were there and stopped anyone else getting hurt) we have been taking a well deserve break. However, today we issued a statement and I want to make sure all our fans get to read it.

PLEASE READ, THIS IS IMPORTANT!

“the worst humanitarian crisis of the century”

This is how the UN have descrived the situation in Darfur, which I'm sure you are aware is a region in the west of Sudan where for the past twenty months government backed militia known as the Janjaweed have been victimising African tribal groups.

This group are responsible killing civilians, raping and branding women, torture. They have cut of food and water to supplies, leading to wide spread starvation among these groups and this is going on throughout the country.

It is estimated that 200,000 people have died so far, a further 1.6 million have been displaced from their homes. Relief organisations have been forced, due to escalating violence to pull out of the area, it is believed that this will lead to a rapid decline in the situation.

Eleven years ago the western world failed the people of Rwanda, as a result 800,000 people lost their lives. Fifty years ago the we promised 'never again', this promise should be kept.

Please, if you agree what is happening is wrong, write to your government, your local MP, the UN, anyone and everyone you can think of and so we can prevent further suffering. We don't want a repeat of Rwanda.

11:31 am - Belated "reveal"

bushmango
I'm not sure if I ever told anyone but karenhealey and mattmatt (who was in on the joke) that I was the one behind onetruefan. I'm not sure that anyone *cares* by now either, but I felt like coming clean.

Anyway... hi! :)

10:28 pm - A resigned resignation

onetruefan
I see that the supposed GCfA devotees have allowed this community to languish untended. I fear that I can no longer associate with such a shiftless assemblage, and must now sever ties with ITSALTTSA.

Sadly, this is not this first time I have been disappointed by those who, professing an undying love for this or the other worthy cause, are easily distracted by the flashes and trappings of whatever false idol is pushed their way. It is a failing of our age that true devotion is scarce and clandestine.

For those remaining aficiandos of GCfA, I can recommend my latest work, Ship-Kings and Númenor Dreams: The Golden Days of GCfA* as an insightful treatment of the band at the apogee of their careers.

Farewell.

12:22 pm - Apologies, and a Fund-Raising Gig!

karenhealey
Hi guys,

I know that all our loyal fans have been very disappointed with the number of gigs we've had to cancel or postpone lately. Gondor Calls For Aid seems to have the worst luck when it comes to throat nodules, faulty equipment, van breakdowns and all of us accidentally locking ourselves in our bathrooms the night of a gig when all our flatmates were out and finding ourselves unable to fit through the bathroom window.

We were hoping that last night's Orientation performance would break the string of bad luck, but it seems it was fated not to be. The sound equipment at Orientation is the worst we've had to deal with in many years of performances. The guys gave it their best shot, and were willing to do the show anyway, but halfway through "Don't Go Where I Can't Follow" I simply could not allow them to continue to play with that system. The speakers were peaking during this, our quietest number, and there was no way they could have handled "Unescapable Darkness" or "Love Me and Despair." If you need to blame someone, blame me.

But, good news! I've spoken to the band, and we're going to have a free (well, mostly free!) all-ages concert outside the First National Bank in the central city! The branch there recently suffered some sort of attempted, apparently unsuccessful, break-in by the Ninja Nine, and when I proposed this concert as a way to help both them and us, the lovely staff at the National Bank were happy to oblige.

"Mostly free, Karen?" you ask me. Mostly free it is. See, we were able to salvage the truss rod and the pickups of Matt's cherished Gibson L5 Signature, which was smashed in the pirate attack, and we've been told that from these shards, we can have the guitar that was broken remade.

It is an expensive process, however, and we're hoping that our loyal fans will chip in. Don't give us what you can't afford, but if you can drop a couple of dollars in the bucket going around the concert, please let us know! In return, everyone who donates and leaves their name will be mentioned in the liner notes of the new CD! A third of the proceeds will be going to the National Bank, so they can rebuild the wall that had a hole smashed in it last night.

So, everyone got that? Fund-raising all-ages gig at the National Bank, tomorrow, 6pm. We'll be playing old favourites and tracks off the new album, and this time our sound equipment should be working jsut fine. I'm hoping to see you all there and put some livejournal names to faces!

Karen,
Manager GCFA

PS) There's apparently some sort of press conference going on at the same time, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was unexpectedly canceled. Call it a hunch.

10:30 am - A call for aid

onetruefan
Reports of yet further wanton destruction at the hands of the Ninja Nine are growing. These reckless amateurs have once more caused more problems than they solve, saving those who are unworthy of it and harming innocents in their fumbling attempts to bring greater glory to themselves. They are a civic danger and authorities must act. Now, before any more lives are lost at their hands! If not, those left behind will be forced to mete out their own crude justice.

Fate again cruelly thwarted my attempts to attend a GCfA concert. Their appearance at University of Canterbury's Orientation show was curtailed after only half of Don't Go Where I Can't Follow. karenhealey later claimed that this was the fault of an "inferior sound system", but I fear a more sinister explanation.

As if this wasn't indignity enough, a stumbling idiot spilled some sort of noisome alcoholic beverage on my favourite black pants. Incompetent dullard.

5:07 am - OMGWTF?

[Cross-posted in a whole bunch of local communities.]

I was just about asleep (finally!), when I heard some kind of loud boom outside, coming from somewhere in the city. Anyone know what's going on? I think I can hear sirens if I strain my ears, but the wind's going the wrong way. :-\

Sorry if this isn't on-topic.

3:58 pm - Laying Rumours To Rest

karenhealey
Okay, first of all I want to reassure our fans that the band is safe. A few of us recieved slight injuries during the pirate attack, but we're all walking around, and Robyn's fingers should heal up nicely.

Second, we want to express our gratitude to the Ninja Nine, who mysteriously came to our rescue and fought the pirates off. Unfortunately, they all vanished before the police arrived, leaving only Gondor Calls For Aid to survey the shattered remains of our studio.

In slightly more upsetting news, we're very sad to announce that although the pirates left the band mostly unharmed, we can't say the same for our music. Several instruments were smashed in the affray, including Matt's prized Gibson L5 signature.

Also, several of the demo tracks were stolen. These recordings represent hours of hard work and we're desperate to have them back. If you hear of pirated versions of tracks named "My Precious One", "He Tarries and I Grieve" or "The Sign Has Been Given" then *please* inform us immediately.

Also, I want to remind everyone that Children of Isildur is a completely unauthorised biography. The band can't vouch for the accuracy of any of the information it contains.

2:48 pm - Have you heard of.... books?

onetruefan
With respect to the various discussions on the possible alter-egos of the band, I refer members of the community to my book, Children of Isildur: the making of GCfA* (pp. 23-34, 52, 128 and passim). In it I refer to an extensive corpus of articles, interviews and eyewitness accounts collected since the formation of the band. I think you'll find that I have more than adequately covered all relevant arguments both for and against the theory, so I really see no need to discuss this any further.

10:10 am - Reviews and Birthdays.

karenhealey
Hi guys!

Wow, this community has really taken off! The band members keep borrowing my laptop to check up on the posts and, as you'll have seen, have even commented a few times. Maybe I should sue you for loss of revenue, since you keep distracting them from the studio?

Ha ha, just joking!

Anyway, I had some time this morning while they worked on "Love Me And Despair", so I rummaged around in our records and found a couple of really early reviews for IEAIGIW. I hope you enjoy!

A really complimentary review, which we were all thrilled to read.Collapse )

...and a not-so-complimentary review. But hey, all publicity is good publicity!Collapse )

On a more personal note, I'm sure everyone joins us in wishing HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the lovely GCFA keyboardist, Jeff, who's 26 today!

He's locked himself in the bathroom with a bottle of whiskey and a wig, but I'm sure that when he's stopped staring in the mirror and crying he'd love to read your birthday wishes.
